Deep within the captivating rolling hills, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was essentially unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was to look after his flock of ewes.
Their gentle baas and the rustling of the breezes through the single tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his responsibilities instilled in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.
But, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.
Stories of wild beasts preying on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.
One day he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but found nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This website trick persisted for a few more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
